What’s With the Third-Person?
If you’ve been on this site long enough to find this page, you’ve probably wondered at one point what the third-person reference to “Mari” was all about. Well, here’s your explanation.
Mari, Mari, Mari, Nonstop Mari!
Mari, in a spontaneous move in April 2007, decided that it’s cute to refer to oneself in third person. Mari’s reasoning was that Mari never liked the word “I” in English. Saying “Mari” all the time gets to Mari’s head (she starts doing it out loud and when nowhere near the computer), so Mari hopes that she will start writing without referring to herself, and her writing style will become more journalistic (instead of just making her family and neighbors think she’s crazy). Mari has decided to go by Mari all the time on her sites and when commenting on sites she reads daily. It’s her site’s “character”. Mari thinks it makes things a little quirky and a bit interesting.
Extra Backstory
Mari used to use “Deanna Marie” as her name, because she went around as “D” before that, and no one knew whether Mari was a boy or a girl, or her actual name. So when Mari would introduce herself as “Deanna”, no one could figure out she was “D”. Mari thought, “If they can’t figure out D is ‘Deanna’, Mari will drill it into their heads by using her first and middle names both!” And so Mari began using a super-long name everywhere. Mari still uses the monogram “D” sometimes, but interestingly enough, never “M”.
