Meteor Shower Dec 13-14!
Mari likes meteor showers, but has yet to see one. The weather always goes to crap before Mari gets the chance.
The show gets its name from the constellation Gemini, because the meteors appear to stream from near the constellation’s bright star Castor.
Unlike last year, the Geminids will be falling against a dark, moonless night.
The last time the sky was this dark during the shower was in 1996, when observers saw up to 110 meteors an hour.
Experts say the rate will be at least that high this year, with peak viewing on December 13 and 14.
“Since the August Perseid shower has been declining the last couple of decades, the Geminids are now the best annual meteor shower,” said Brian Skiff, a researcher at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona.
And wouldn’t you know it, it’s supposed to be overcast both Thursday and Friday. #$^@$%^&@#$%@%!!!
Have you ever seen a meteor shower?
Do you like to watch meteor showers?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a meteor shower. I’ve always lived too close to cities to have enough darkness in the sky heh. That’s sad that the weather is supposed to be overcast for you, but maybe it will clear up just in time for you to enjoy the show.
I’ve seen one once when I was out in the desert away from the city. A friend of mine used to live way out in the boonies and when there was a meteor shower predicted , we’d sit and watch. It has to be the most fascinating thing. I hope one day you get to see a meteor shower, because it truly is something amazing.
Aww, that sucks! I’ve never seen a meteor shower though, they sound really cool.
@Julie
Mari loves your optimism. It’s so refreshing.
And you know what, the clouds have been reduced from cloudy to “mostly cloudy”. Yay <3~! Mari may yet get to see a meteor shower.
@Elle
Mari’s farther out from a city, so Mari can see the sky a little more clearly, but Mari does wish it were a bit clearer.
The sky is amazing out in the country, isn’t it?
Never seen a meteor shower, but I really hope to one day!
Fingers crossed that the weather predictions are wrong!
Meteor showers are fun to watch. I tried to watch the August ones and I might have seen less than five altogether. I was assuming that they would all be coming at once, but unfortunately, they didn’t. Either way, it’s still fun to watch and try and make wishes.
yep I’m alive.
I’ve just been super busy
and dealing with dumb stuff
so I’m going to have a goal of updating around once a month, and hope I can be more consistant
I’ve never seen a meteor shower
I would really have liked to see this one tonight
but its probably not going to be visible
and I would be finding out about grove city tommorow
but I’m going to hershey for state football championships.
last football game/ last time I have to do guard in my life.
I’ve never seen a meteor shower before, but I can imagine how spectacular it would be!
It sucks when the weather doesn’t do what you want it to do
@Maria
Yeah, the Perseids have been waning according to that article.
Mari feels better about not being the only one still enough of a child inside to want to wish on the shooting stars. XD
@Julie
Hopefully you can reach your goal of updating once a month. It’s rough when you can’t be consistent with things. It drives Mari crazy, at least.
Yeah, the cloud cover looks pretty steady tonight, no breaks that Mari has seen yet, anyway.
Oh, really? Mari saw on the news that a couple of schools from around here were going to states, and that was pretty cool. Hope your school wins at states! Mari was really surprised to see that one school whose marching band Mari’s old marching band competed against during Mari’s junior year was going.
Oh, woohoo! Go Julie. The last performance is always such a relief. Even a year plus after Mari quit, Mari still keeps wanting to go back and do guard again, lol.
Hey Mari!
How interesting! I’ve never ever seen a meteor shower before, I don’t even know what it looks like, but I’ve seen a “shooting” star before!…not that my wish came true…- -
I would love to see a meteor shower though. If it is like anything like a shooting comet/star, that’d be such a pretty sight to behold if there were many coming down!
…maybe i’m getting a fantasy view of a comet shower..like in one of those animation..lol
I hope you will be able to see it on the day though! You should take pictures and show it to us.
Btw, I noticed you use…er, is it 2nd or 3rd person? writing. That’s very interesting and unique! First time running into it. Cool!!

I’ve never seen a meteor shower…and I really want to see one too. I saw a shooting star last night though…so pretty!
It’s been raining off and on over here and it’s been trying to snow again for the past couple of weeks so it’s been pretty much over cast every night. I doubt that, had I remembered to look up, I would have seen anything.
I always seem to miss the cool celestial stuff.
