Man Stabs Dog

It’s a little late, but here’s the revival of Stoopid Saturday! Stoopid Saturday is a weekly column where Mari explains or finds an example of something stoopid. These examples of stoopid may be so stoopid they’re funny or simply stoopid.

Moving along in todays lesson on stoopidity, we have here an example of a severe lapse in judgment found in Mari’s local community, similar to another local case of stoopid Mari found1.

Mari saw this on the morning news on her local CBS-station, KDKA. Here’s the initial article:

A man is facing animal cruelty charges after police say he stabbed his own dog with a sword - killing the animal.

The black lab had apparently attacked a mail carrier earlier in the day.

Witnesses say the dog was going after someone else when the owner went into the house, grabbed a sword and stabbed the dog in the back.

Here’s another article from later in the day:

Police are investigating a violent case of animal cruelty they say involved a deadly attack on a chained up black Labrador.

Authorities say the dog’s owner, 40-year-old Brian Scott, will likely face charges including, animal cruelty and disorderly conduct.

According to police, Scott said he was angry because the dog allegedly kept escaping from his home and attacking a mail carrier.

Police report that the dog, which was chained to the house at the time of the attack, was repeatedly stabbed with a samurai sword.

Neighbors said that they tried to help the dog after the attack.

The animal was taken to a veterinary hospital where it died from its injuries.

Police say the dog had wounds up to 13 inches deep.

Mari’s first reaction was…WTF?! Honestly, isn’t hitting dogs with rolled-up newspapers considered insensitive now? Let alone STABBING them?!

Whatever happened to being a responsible pet owner, and simply going outside and correcting the animal? This man was just irresponsible and stoopid. Mari would call this a lapse in judgment, but he probably thought it was cool that he stabbed a dog with a samurai sword.

Sheesh, did it never occur to him to maybe go outside, and make the dog sit down and pay attention to him rather than the mailman and other innocent passerby?
Then again, if the dog was attacking people, maybe he was abusing it before that… That’s sad to think about.

Seriously, who in their right mind stabs their dog to get it to pay them mind? Mari just goes outside, stands in front of her dog, makes him sit, and tells him “Sshhh” until he calms down when he acts up. Then again, Mari loves her dog. This guy obviously didn’t care about his dog at all.

This guy needs some serious help. Or maybe to be forced to watch Cesar Milan

What do you think? How should this guy be punished?
Dog owners: how do you get your dog to listen when it misbehaves?

    Wow. Just wow. I can’t understand that, because what will killing/physically wounding the animal teach it. Dogs respond well to being yelled at and hit on the snout. They feel pain just slightly enough to know you’re angry and they are sad that they made you mad. But stabbing them? *sigh* People are just dumb.

  • Kaisa on

    Oh my… The guy should definitely be punished, no doubt about that. I’m sure he had abused to the dog before, since a dog that is well taken care of and kept in order doesn’t just randomly attack people :/

    Even though my sister’s puppy sometimes drives me absolutely insane by randomly attacking my slippers and peeing on my rug, I could never ever do anything like that! We just firmly tell her ‘NO!’ and she’s slowly learning the meaning of the word. Very slowly, though :P

  • Becky on

    He stabbed the dog with a samurai sword? O_O Wow, thats just…crazy. Why did he have a samurai sword so close to hand anyway? He must of really meant to hurt the dog badly, you can’t accidently cause a 13 inch wound.
    I actually think he should be put into prison, he sounds scary - he needs to learn that its wrong to do that kind of behaviour to anyone, even animals.

    I’m personally terrified of dogs, but when my cat misbehaves I say ‘NO!’ really firmly and tap him on his side so that it suprises him. It stopped him scratching my carpet lol.

  • Mari on

    @Julie

    People are just dumb. You’re completely right. Honestly, the more you think about it the dumber this guy seems.

  • Mari on

    @Kaisa

    Well, you know, sometimes rescue dogs that are currently in loving homes have aggression problems.

    Aww, lol. Puppies. That’s so much more pleasant to think of than this story.

  • Mari on

    @Becky

    He was probably nuts. Or just so stupid that he thought he was a ninja…
    It’s scary to think that people that stupid can have samurai swords on hand…

    He should go to prison. Indeed.

    Mari flicks her cats in the head softly. It gets them to listen without hurting them, because they just don’t like the sudden contact.

  • Kay on

    Gosh how stupid do you have to be! Idiot! I hate how people try to make their dogs mean I think its mean. They do they to protect themselves they say but I highly doubt that’s what its for.

  • Tuire on

    Oh my god that is just… stupid! And horrible. But I think it only shows once again how screwed up this world has become. I bet the owner had watched Kill Bill too many times!

    Had I a dog, I would train him right and punish him in a more humane way. Smacking and stabbing doesn’t teach the dog anything but to be afraid!

  • Mari on

    @Kay

    Mari hates to ask this question, but did you read the post?

    It’s actually about the guy stabbing his dog and killing it, not trying to make it mean…

  • Mari on

    @Tuire

    Exactly, hitting the dog doesn’t teach it, let alone stabbing.

    You’re probably right about the Kill Bill thing…which is sad.

  • Nina on

    that’s like killing your own child! omg that is just horrible. like you said why couldn’t he just pet the dog to try to calm him down. maybe the dog has been attacking people, but that is still not a reason to stab him! good gosh.

  • sierra on

    Have you ever watched his show on fox? He’s really fairly moderate, he just gets mad at the democrats because there radicals.

  • Mari on

    @Nina

    Yeah, it is. Dogs are like part of the family.

    People are just crazy, huh?

  • Mari on

    @sierra

    Gee, Mari wishes you had read the commenting rules…

    In any case, Mari has watched it, many years ago. And Mari would have to disagree again, just a little. Moderate is trying to find a solution in-between two extremes. O’Reilly tends to slam Democrats for things, but never really thinks of a solution that would satisfy anyone.

    Anyone who’s reading this: Mari is answering her comment, which was, itself, an answer to Mari’s comment on her site.

  • Bekki on

    What a stoopid idiot!! The trainers’ behaviours reflect on the pet so he’s even more stoopid for stabbing his dog.

    “…will likely face charges including, animal cruelty and disorderly conduct…” He damn well better! That is just absurd!

    Finally: rofl @ samurai sword. He just happened to have one kicking around.

    Poor doggy! :(

  • Izzy on

    I’m not sure if it’s hormones or what but when I read this I just wanted to burst into tears. To me pets are apart of ones family, my cats mean the world to me. Shoot I sobbed for 2 hours when my pet hamster died lol. It breaks my heart to think that people are so insensitive, why have an animal if you are not going to appreciate for everything it’s worth. My heart hurts, especially when I read

    to me that is completely uncalled for and just outright cruel. Sadly, I remember coming across a “commercial” on myspace for animal cruelty. I wont go into dteails because to me it was too graphic but the level of to which people stoop now is beyond understanding. Truth be told, in my humble opinion, any type of charges this person receives will not justify his actions.

  • Mari on

    @Bekki

    Yeah! Exactly. The owner’s behavior reflects on the dog.

    Also, yeah, it was a pretty strange thing to just have a samurai sword lying about.

  • Mari on

    @Izzy

    Pets are family, indeed! Mari agrees 100%.

    Where did you read that? …It’s making me sad too.

    Honestly, animals may not be people, but that doesn’t mean you should love them any less!

  • Amy on

    Oh animal cruelty is just awful. I never understood how a person could treat an animal in such a way. What is it that makes a person think they can harm a helpless animal in such a way? That poor dog, probably never understood why it’s owner treated him that way.

  • jessie on

    omg, my dog is a black lab too… he’s a part of my family, he’s a friend. When he misbehaves a simple “no” is enough. We teached him from the beginning that this is bad, punished him with ignorance. oh well.. The only cruel animal is called human.

  • Mediagrrl on

    Wtf?! Jeez of all the ridiculous things.

    <3 Voni

  • kimba on

    are you kidding me? what is wrong with people.

  • Amy on

    I think people get irrational sometimes and it sounds like this guy definitely had other problems than having a difficult time with his dog. It’s hard to believe someone can have the ability to be so cruel though, and not have the ability to even see how they are acting. I’m honestly not surprised though, people are just inhumane and amazingly cruel sometimes.

  • Anusha on

    Heyy Mari. I just came by to say Hi. Thats the least I can do for hosting me :D .

    Anusha

  • Anusha on

    animal cruelty is so sad. How could he do that to his own dog! When it didn’t do anything to him, did it?

  • April on

    I think that this is just completely inhumane. How DARE a man do that to a dog that probably wasn’t taught any better!! The way some people treat animals and is just so effing terrible it makes me wanna swear!! I never swear so this is a big thing..

    Animals deserve to be treated as we treat ourselves. How would HE like to be stabbed with a samurai sword for shouting at a telemarketer? Thats probably what the dog sees this man as…as a nosy person continually putting unwanted mail (bills) in the letter box for his owner. Hmph…I am purely outraged by this!! Tsk Tsk Tsk…

    P.S Everything on Serenity Musings is all fixed now =D hehe

  • Enzo on

    The poor thing! That guy seriously has anger management issues. Stabbing a dog?! I’m not much of an animal rights protector but this issue definitely hurt my heart. Stabbing a dog just because he didn’t obey you isn’t humane. The reason why God gave you a brain is for you to know right from wrong. He made us superior to all creatures so we should understand the incapacities of a dog and we should never expect it to behave like a kid being paid to do so. Enough said.

  • Starlet on

    The saddest thing is the guy probably will get away with it, a fine maybe, cos it is ‘only a dog’ after all. I’d like to see him locked up, so he can’t do that to any other animal or even human in the future! Fruitloop.

  • vanessa on

    of course he should be punished.. im not a fan of big dogs coz im scared of them but that is way out of line.. why own a dog if youre just gonna kill it..

  • Nano on

    Tell him that you’re going to stab him with a samurai sword and he’ll see if it’s cool or not.

  • Lisa on

    WTF ?! Why would that man do that to his own dog ?! That is just horrible and people like him, who abuses animals and finds a “reason” to kill them, should be sent off on an island just to suffer.

  • Mari on
