Thank You
…for making Mari’s life just a teeny bit easier.
Mari is a moderator at Despair. It’s pretty easy. Just looking for links and deactivating people if they don’t have their links up. Or if there’s something wrong with their site (it’s down or they went on hiatus). By the way, anyone who wants to be and hasn’t yet, consider applying to be a mod. There are a bunch of pages (about 5 extra pages per day that the member list needs checked, Mari thinks) that have yet to be assigned to people. That’s a lot of sites for Naco to check herself. If you like Despair and think it works, why not help out? Plus, you get linked for free on Despair if you’re a good little mod for a few months (three or something like that).
The best way to find links is to use CTRL+F and type in “Despair” and just search for it within the text of the page. It’s super annoying when the link is buried in some random page like “goodies” or something. Mari will usually just deactivate you if she clicks ten different pages on your site and still can’t find the link. Having it in the sidebar or in the footer or even in the posts on your blog makes it that much easier for both you as the site owner (you don’t miss out on comments every Friday rotation) and Mari, so she doesn’t have to spend hours looking through your site pages.
That said, Mari would like to thank (by way of link) the people on the page she checks every week who had easy to find, visible links. Thank you: Seven, Fixed Entropy, Just Nick, Envy, Seven Stories, Divine Soul, [un]sexy.net, TechNewb, Amoretentia, My Thoughts, Ideas, and Ramblings, tehsheriff.org, WITHERING-ROSE, McKennethLicon, Risque, At-Liberty.net, Shibuya 109, Dirty-Martini, Rancid-Petals, Smiles&Regrets, lostmyhead.org, Give Me Malice, Kay Kizz, and LostWithoutYou, faraway words.
What?! Mari learned this link-love-spreading technique from Fruity. God, that sounded bad…XDDDDD But, next up in Mari’s link-love-spreading comment-plugger-plugin-using-sites domination plans: Commentators! (God, that sounded bad too. XD Mari’s mind is in the gutter and beyond.)

What, someone learned something from me and my blog?! And here I was thinking I was quite successful in making my blog useless by design.
MUAHAHA.
Alright, you managed to get me out of my commenting hiatus. Come to think of it, uggh, I gotta go update my blog. It’s so dead, ghosts are “living” in it.
@Fruityoaty
XDDD
Darn straight, fruity! Update, Update, Update! *chanting*
Yes, indeed. Some people will be sneaky have it in the middle of nowhere (like all the way at the top next to the graphic) or have it named something else, like d.nu… which is annoying by the way.
Oh and I stumbled upon someone who had this message: (paraphrased, of course) “Despair mods, don’t deactivate me because your link isn’t working for my site. Fix it.”
There’s so much… that peeves me about that comment. She acted as if it was Despair’s fault that her server doesn’t accept the readfile from other servers. What did I do? Deactivated her ass.
*excuse the language*
Sorry. There’s a lot that peeves me about a third of the sites I have to check for Despair. The annoyances range from what you mentioned above to tiny font to automatic music to ugly graphics to ugly color schemes.
I wonder if there’s a way we can blacklist a certain amount of people so we never have to return. Lol.
@Maria
Mari remembers that site that had it as d.nu. That was super-annoying.
Uhh, how dumb is that? It’s called the html link or use the one that works on non-include-enabled servers that’s posted in the forum. YEESH.
“Should you fail to include a Despair link because of your own stupidity, Maria shall strike theee down with great vengeance!” XDD Almost-quoting Pulp Fiction quoting the Bible is so much fun.
Just FYI, guys, Maria is a moderator too.
*Emz holds up hand*
Emz is proudly a mod too.
Emz like Maria, hates it when the link is put out of the site’s design and randomly at the very top where you just don’t notice! It’s so stoopid!
Emz hates spending more than a couple clicks looking for the link because site’s that put it in stoopid places tend to have an annoying design and stoopid writing styles.
Or Emz is just too harsh and judgemental about teenyboppers!
Either way, Emz doesn’t understand why people don’t put the link in their sidebar/footer/under every post. It. Just. Makes. Sense.

Glad I could make somebodies life easier.
@Emz
Well, CTRL+F solved that for Mari.
Well, you have a right to be harsh with teenyboppers. You’ve been there and done it.
@Lisa
Aww, you’re nice. =)
Glad I could help! I was thinking about applying to be a mod, I’d love it. I just don’t know if I’d have the time or not. *Scratches head*
@Ashley
It only takes ten minutes tops to check your page. Go for it and apply! There are a ton of slots left for Thursday that need people to check them.
LOL!! Fruity taught me the linky-love posting as well. XD Much love!
Ah, Mari isn’t my moderator. I know Maria and Julie at one point were the mods who checked my blog, I wonder who does it now. I have mine on my sidebar, but yeah, I’ve always wondered why people bury the things they’ve joined. You don’t have to have everything on the main page, but really, you should be proud of what you joined. That’s why you joined after all, as such these links really should not be more than 3 clicks away from the main page and that should only be because of the number of joined things and a need for organization.
@Joana
Actually, a new schedule was just sent out, so Mari may be your mod now. Mari did check the page with your blog a while back (when she first became a mod in May or something, but then more people joined and your blog moved to a different page).
Mari figured she’d thank those on her old page that were always easy to check.
Awww I think it’s cute you made a blog about Despair … don’t ask me why lmfao. I’ve always found that people think it takes ages to do the checks, but it’s just one page (at xposure I was a mod and had to check all of the pages :x) which I think makes it easier
I need to mention the ctrl+F thing to the new mods I ‘hired’ that’s how I usually check too heh.
@Naco
Lol, that’s okay.
Yeah, only one pages is really easy.
Oh, definitely. CTRL+F saves a lot of time.
Thanks for linking us, Mari! I think that simply placing a link up is such an easy think to do, I don’t understand how people can’t have one up. Too lazy, I guess?
@Charlotte
That’s AWFUL lazy. XD
I got this link from my referrers and wow. Good to know I make things easier for you
Once my site was deactivated though and I hadn’t moved the link…shame on you stinky mods.
I know how hard that job is on your guys, I’ve run a few cliques in my day and it’s a nightmare trying to find codes.
@Sydney
Naco hasn’t officially shared the CTRL+F shortcut to find things with everyone, so they were probably just reading the page and missed it. Human errors happen. That’s why Naco makes us send in reports of who we deactivated and why.
It IS a nightmare trying to find codes! People have the weirdest places of sticking them.
