I Can Has Cheezburger
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Mari will explain the Internet phenomenon of ICanHasCheezburger (ICHC) and LOLcats.
Put simply: People like funny pictures of cats and other animals with funny captions.
To get a bit more in-depth: People are obsessive about it. Because it’s funny. And thus an Internet phenomenon was born.
ICanHasCheezburger is a site devoted entirely to these LOLcat and LOLanimal pictures. It’s one of Mari’s most visited pages.
Here, the writers at ICHC recant the tale of how the site started:
The history of ICHC starts with the finding of this picture… and a non-stop laughing fit for approximately 73.5 minutes.
Cheezburger and Tofuburger hatched a plan to share this image on the internets with anyone who cared. The url we chose was of the text of the picture.
After posting this image, it was made known that there were no sites where these images could be found in an organized/tagged fashion. So it was decided to fulfill this need… and so, the blog was born.
And so, sheltered netizen, sally forth and enjoy yon pictures of funny cats with stupid captions!
Do ya get it now, at least?
