Wanna Die Laughing?

Apparently this guy does.

A Texas man scheduled to be executed on Tuesday wants to die laughing.

Patrick Knight, 39, has been soliciting jokes on the Internet and plans to tell one of them before receiving a lethal injection, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said on Monday.

“He says he wants to keep his execution light,” she said.

Knight was sentenced to die for the August 1991 murder of his two elderly neighbors in Amarillo, Texas.

Lyons said a friend of Knight’s set up a page on the social networking Web site MySpace.com to solicit jokes, and “hundreds” of suggestions have arrived in the mail.

“I’ll be enjoying my last days on Earth,” Knight wrote on the Web site. “I’m not asking for pen pals, but I’m asking you to spread the word that I am holding a contest. I want people to send me their best jokes, and to keep me and others with (execution) dates laughing.”

That’s…morbidly hilarious. Like a clown at a funeral. Well, at least the guy isn’t going to be miserable right before he bites the dust.

What do you think?

    Oh I thought he wanted to laugh so hard his brain burst. That happens you know.

    oh wow. that is an interesting tidbit. ~.~’
    die laughing? hmm. i’d rather not die at all but i guess it’s reasonable,,,sorta.
    the layout is really interesting ^^

    Interesting… but I doubt he’s actually going to be laughing it up when the time comes. I mean, sure… right now he “plans” on laughing… but that’s just a plan. Most likely, the finality and gravity of his situation will hit him moments before they snuff his life out…

    Like what fruityoaty said, he may not really be able to laugh about his death in the end. After all, he committed the crime 16 years ago… That’s a long time, and one might already have forgiven themselves. For me, I just want to die comfortable.

    LOL @ same XHTML tags.

    Lol this made me laugh. Although he did an awful thing I think this is quite interesting and funny. Given me some ideas for my funeral :-P

    Makes sense to me! I guess he’s just an optimist, which you know, is a nice trait to have. Good on him for looking for the silver lining…

  • Charlene on Reply to this comment

    I heard on the radio that he didn’t end up telling a joke after all. I can’t blame him. What kind of joke would you say right before you die anyway?

    @exene

    Oh, exene, if only Mari were an idiot enough to believe that.

    *shifty glance* Better not laugh too hard…Mari’s head might explode.

    @kay

    Breaking news: Everyone is dying. Just all at different speeds.

    For some reason Mari never takes well to comments about her layout, whether they be of the brown-nosing or defamatory nature. See, this is the WordPress Default, which makes Mari think you’re an idiot enough to believe what exene said.

    @fruityoaty

    Ooh, fatalistic and harsh. Mari likes. =)

    @Vickie

    Yeah, fruity is pretty awesome saying: “the finality and gravity of his situation will hit him moments before they snuff his life out” That’s cold. PULP FICTION cold.
    LOL at WordPress. *making a DUH face* Your choice of XHTML being similar to the WP Default does not amuse the Mari.

    Mari’s feeling mean for no reason…

    @April

    Clowns. Funeral clowns. Mari is serious. What better way to entertain your grieving family than clowns shaping oblong balloons into misshapen poodles and throwing pies?

    @Amanda

    Optimism in jail is a pretty rare trait. Between the stabbings and rapes, how someone can be optimistic is beyond Mari.

    @Charlene

    Mari would say something like “So this priest and the altar boy are fishing…” The end of the joke involves the Pope swearing. It’s classic. That and it buys you a good five to ten minutes more.

    Um…

    That’s kinda really weird. I guess if I had to be executed, then I would want to go with a smile on my face, but having a contest for people to send in their jokes? How would you feel, knowing you’d sent in a joke for a guy to be laughing at when he was executed. I’d just be like ew for ages.

    My friend’s dad wants to have Queen’s ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ played at his funeral. I think that that would be hilarious.

  • Brook on Reply to this comment

    If I was him I would be scared shitless lol. At least he isn’t taking it that bad and is trying to laugh it off but when that day comes I’m sure he’ll be rethinking all of that.

  • Kathy on Reply to this comment

    Wow, that’s kind of disturbing…I mean, that’s great for HIM. He’d die happily, I guess. He might be looking foward to his death now.

  • Joana on Reply to this comment

    That sounds like an ideal way to go out, but part of me feels like he should suffer more for his crimes.

  • saya on Reply to this comment

    Nice to know the guy regrets what he did isn’t it? But if thats really what he wants to do…

    @Evie

    XD Another one bites the dust. Classic funeral music.

    @Brook

    Another one agreeing with fruity.

    @Kathy

    Something tells Mari he still doesn’t want to die…

    @Joana

    You sound like Raito from Death Note. XDDDD

    @saya

    Did the article say that? Or are you sarcastic? Mari is clueless.
