So Exactly Where Are These Hurricanes?

Scientists predicted a big hurricane season this year. So where are they?

This year, forecasters predicted a really busy year again. But with just two storms to date, and neither one a hurricane, you might wonder where all the action is.

Be patient, history suggests.

“June storms are not unusual, but… we’re in the relatively quiet part of the hurricane season,” said Dennis Felgen, a meteorologist and spokesman for the National Hurricane Center.

Though hurricane season begins on June 1, the stormiest months tend to be August and September, when conditions in the Atlantic basin are most ripe for a hurricane to develop. During these months, ocean temperatures are warmer and there is typically less wind in the upper atmosphere to shear the tops off of developing storms.

Well, Mari hopes they’re wrong anyway. Hurricanes come up the East Coast and dump rain on Mari in Pennsylvania for days at a time, so Mari would like them to stay away.

What do you think? Are scientists big fat liars or is there some truth to their dorky mumbo-jumbo? (Kidding! Mari is a science dork herself.)

    Oh, I didn’t know it’s the hurricane season, hehe.. I hope there will be no “serious” hurricanes in your place. I think this hurricane season is quite affected by the global warming. Who knows?
    Oh, and I’m a science dork, too :D

    @Sandra

    Well, Mari only gets the rain, not the wind.

    i didn’t even know there were two storms yet! but usually we don’t really get anything down here except for rain and wind anyways.

    Umm…when exactly were these storms? We get rain here from time to time, but not a whole lot…

    I hope there isn’t too many hurricanes this year but it looks like the storms themselves are bad enough as it is :( I wish you the best.

    @Amadi

    Neither did Mari. Mari had only heard of one.

    @Phoebe

    June. Duh! Silly Phoebe!

    @Nancy

    Yeah, the thunderstorms here were bad enough! And poor Texas and Oklahoma are getting water dumped on them!

    Mari is lucky she isn’t in Florida with Brittany. Brittany had a tropical storm at the start of hurricane season. :( Oh well I’m alive. lol It really wasn’t anything big, a bit dissapointing for being a “Tropical Storm” but I should be happy it didn’t turn into a hurricane.
