State of the Commenting Site Community
Mari feels it’s time to give everybody another heads up. Let’s go through the list of “comment rotation” sites again, shall we?
Xposure.nu is still dead. Though a surprising number of people who can’t figure that out still have the link up. To anyone who still has the Xposure link up: Do you ever actually get any comments from Xposure? Do you still give comments? Do you know anyone else that still participates in Xposure? Are you able to access your control panel? Is the front page still broken?
Rouged, Mari would still imagine is just like a working Xposure. You (the site owner) rarely get comments and reporting is very difficult and seems to do nothing. Does anyone have a first-hand account of the state of Rouged?
Exentrique still hasn’t improved. Mari asked for her account to be deleted after emailing Sabriena (the owner, listed contact address) about it, and received no reply. Mari has since put her account on hold and has no plans of reactivating it unless she hears something really, really good. Last Mari checked, Exentrique was still like Rouged in that no one ever commented. Any first-hand accounts?
The only one Mari is involved with anymore is Despair.nu. Why? It’s the only one Mari feels is taken care of. Naco, while a busy person, manages to take very excellent care of Despair with the help of her moderators. The rules are followed or the user does not get comments. It’s that simple. Despair works, and Mari isn’t sure about the stats now, but she got at least half (around 1.7 out of every rotation commentated) of her assigned commentators as of February.
To make Despair even better, here are some tips. First, make it easy for mods to find your Despair link. Putting the link (preferably the rotation) on the sidebar, somewhere on the front page ensures you won’t be deactivated. Keeping it on the links or joined page is also okay (Naco may change the rules, so watch out), but don’t put it on some random page willy-nilly. The mods shouldn’t have to look through your whole site to find the link on your “games” or “reads” page, and since they won’t look there, you’ll get deactivated. Not having a link up at all means you will get deactivated. Please keep your link up!
Second, report people. Unless you personally know why they didn’t comment (they’re an affiliate, hostee and something happened), report them. If you don’t report people, Despair doesn’t work. Sometimes, you may report people on accident, but here’s a tip. If you’re running WordPress, go into your Comments management and literally search their url. For example, were Mari to get Joana as a commentator Mari would go into her WordPress Dashboard, click the comments tab, and type in “nanashi-inc.net”, and of course she would find Joana commented on time. If you don’t believe this works, search the url of your last commentator. It will bring it up, and any other comments that person has made. This does work! Use it!

I haven’t been a member of Xposure since… forever! I never liked it much and quite when I joined Despair.
I was a member of Rouged for a short period of time but deleted my account because the system works like Xposure.
As for Exentrique, I’m still a member, but on hiatus, because my account hasn’t been deleted. Seeing that your situation is the same, I wonder if the owner/s just don’t want to delete accounts to keep their member count higher?
Despair kicks bum, though. Sure, not everyone assigned to comment on my site do that, but thankfully the reporting is easy
@Kaisa
Maybe. Or maybe Sabriena is just too busy? Mari isn’t sure. But as with any social sort of thing with an account on the Internet, there should be a delete account option on the user’s side.
I could care less about those commenting sites, really. I join them so I have something to do. I could care less about reporting someone, because half the time, nothing happens. The big problem I see is that I get people who don’t really want to make any effort, at all, just because THEY want someone to comment on their blog. I’m a member of each community, but refuse to link Xposure since it’d deader than a belly-up fish in water.
@Amanda
Actually, on Despair…reporting people works. Mari is a moderator at Despair, and she can see who was reported and who has warnings for not commentating. Report someone, and they ARE NOT in the next rotation. Unless they had a valid reason like they had a death in the family or their computer blew up or something.
But you are right, on every other site NOTHING HAPPENS. You can report people until you’re blue in the face and they’re still getting comments without giving them.
Mari deleted her Xposure account many moons ago.
Despair is the sh*t. I totally love it, Veronica is incredible, and it works.
@John
Exactly. Naco is really good at keeping Despair afloat.
Yup. Despair trumps all. Too much time, money, and energy is put into this and it shows. Naco, the mods, and everyone else who helps does a great job of keeping it up and running as smoothly as possible.
