One Day Blog Silence

Originally in honor of those who lost their lives at Virginia Tech, now in honor of all the world’s victims, OneDayBlogSilence proposed that the Blogosphere hold a day of silence on 30 April. Misstuned will, of course, be participating. Mari loves being part of something much bigger.

“But Mari, this will break your one year blogathon!”
No, it won’t break Mari’s blogathon. The silence graphic will be Mari’s post for 30 April.

Lorelle makes a good point in her opinion article “Silence is a memoriam, not a reason to stop blogging”. Only for the sake of remembering, should we stop doing what we do for a minute. Only so we should not repeat these actions.

    I have mine set up to post a post for it on the 30th. It won’t show up till then. But it’s a good idea. It will show some kind of attention.

    Hrm, I think Lorelle has a very good point. I’m always a bit leery about ‘memorial silences’ since I remember having to stand outside around the school flag on ANZAC Day. We all had to stand there for a minute, in silence, but -because- of the silence no-one really knew what they were there for, or why they were silent, other than because it was the “thing to do”.

    Easy shows of sympathy because they are the “thing to do” don’t help anyone. Talking helps people, understanding helps people. Silence is just… silence. It’s uncritical, it’s accepting, it’s passive.

    I dunno, maybe it’s just me but somehow -shouting- seems more appropriate…

    @Jenny

    Mari has her WordPress post future-dated for the 30th too. She just had to post about it now so other bloggers would know.

    @Dee

    Good point. Shouting can be more appropriate at times.
