Start of Spring
Happy Vernal Equinox! For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, today is the vernal equinox or the first day of spring. Apparently we humans are a little slow on the uptake, though. See, the other species say spring came early this year.
Early flowers, migrating swallows and sleepless bears are among signs that spring has arrived long ago in the northern hemisphere even as a record mild winter formally ends on Tuesday with a rare chill.
Spring officially starts on Wednesday at 0007 GMT when the sun passes north over the celestial equator but scientists say the biological clocks of animals and plants are running ahead of time, perhaps upset by global warming.
Orange trees, olives and peaches are blooming weeks ahead of schedule in Greece, geese are cutting down on migrations in Canada and the United States, and bears have been unable to hibernate in Bulgaria.
Red Admiral butterflies and swallows — usually a sign of summer after the birds spend the winter in Africa — have been spotted early in the Netherlands after the warmest Dutch autumn and winter since records starting in 1706.

Great, rest of my species, now look what you did. Let’s just hope that none of those grumpy, woken-too-early bears don’t come knocking on our doors about it. Anyone who says global warming directly caused by humans is a myth is a moron.

lol I hope none of the animals are grumpy this year! I’m soooo glad spring has sprung, though. Ugh, I was so friggin’ sick of winter and all its coldness. Anyway, happy first day of spring, and take care!
It may be a little off-topic, but let me say: I am so happy spring is here! After that very erratic winter, I’m just about ready for spring weather.
@Kristie
Me too. But there could be bear attacks or something since they were up early and there was no food. They may be forced to go into human areas.
@Josh
You’re still on-topic. =) And yeah, I’m really glad it’s spring too. 70 degrees is so much better than 30.
I wish it was spring like over here. It was last week but then the weather took a turn for the worst and we are stuck with slit and wet snow. YAY for us!
I wish it was little warmer here thought doesnt exactly feel like spring *blames global warming* XP
@Checkers
Oh, that stinks. I’d mail you some nice weather in an envelope. but it’s raining here now. BLEH!
@SakuraSatoshi
Stupid global warming. XP
I still haven’t caught up since the time change.
