Wouldn’t It Be Nice?
Why is there nothing like this in lyrics today?
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through
-The Beach Boys
Seriously. Why are all the new artists writing lyrics about how sad they are, or writing vapid lyrics like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton?
Is the world that miserable? Is that why there are no remotely happy or uplifting lyrics in recent songs?
I pine for the golden age of pop music.

Hi Deanna! Haven’t talked to you in ages! School is getting in the way, and I’m sitting for 2 major exams this year. SO…I may turn up dead. X_X Sorry for being inactive! I’m trying to revive all my dead sites…
How true about your post. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t listen to English pop anymore. Prefer Mando-pop and J-rock =P
Perhaps it’s marketing. Kids these days seem to be depressed and whiny (I sound old). I prefer more upbeat, happy songs, too. I’m not even too picky about it! They can just sound upbeat. The lyrics don’t have to be too consistent.
I think, maybe some day music like that will be big again. Like a huge cycle.
I love the Beach Boys! I have a few tapes of them!
Yeah, also, a lot of music is sounding all the same. A lot of lyrics are degrading or depressing. All the originality of lyrics seems to have disappeared. There is always exceptions, but that’s pretty much it.
They’re there; we’re just not listening to the right music!
There does seem to be a lot of depressing, or in some cases disgusting, music out lately. I think though that there still are some uplifting tunes around, you just have to really hunt for them.
For example, a lot of Ayu’s songs are pretty upbeat to me.
I hardly listen to the lyrics, I’m a huge beat girl and I like beats, a lot. I sometimes say, “OMFGG WAS THAT SONG ABOUT LOVE?” like a few weeks/months later? lolo.
Beach Boys just own, they’re the best.
Music appeals to the masses, and apparently the masses don’t like to be happy anymore. They want to talk about jilted lovers or misery. Ka-ching? =\
ahh I love that song!
pop music stinks.
hope all is well with you
@Shizune
Yeah, it’s hard to find happy songs.
@Josh
Haha, you and me both. I sound real old when I start saying “You whippersnappers listen to that godawful noise all the time!”
@Alexandra
Yeah, they’re classic.
@Maria
The right music shouldn’t be so darn hard to find…
@Joana
Yeah, it’s sad that you have to look so hard. Yeah, I love Ayu’s music, but sometimes I just need a bit of a change. Though, after trying to find other music for this bit of a while, I’d have to say I’ll be happy to get A Best 2 and listen until my eardrums burst.
@Stella
I like beats, but when the lyrics are always so depressing sometimes I can’t help but notice them. Beach Boys do own. XD
@John
Exactly.
@Julie
It is a really great song.
Wow, you posted! Holy shizz.
Yes, it’s a reflection of the times… I guess there’s a lot of miserable people out there. Art imitating life. But then you think, maybe if more people wrote happier songs, it’d have some kind of pay-it-forward effect on other people and result in happier people…
I sing/hum this tune “So Happy Together” by The Turtles all the time when I’m feeling chipper (and then my friends tell me to quit it because my singing is annoying the heck out of them, LOL). Yes, it’s a fact: happy people can be annoying. It’s not the words I like so much as the happy tune:
Imagine me and you I do
I think about you day and night
It’s only right
To think about the girl you love
And hold her tight
So happy together
If I should call you up invest a dime
And you say you belong to me
And ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be
So very fine
So happy together
I really don’t listen to a lot of music these days. I usually spend my time watching movies.
I was just listening to the Beach Boys- CCalifornia girls.
I guess everyone writes depressing songs because that’s what seems to sell. Everyone is into the whole ‘I’m-depressed-and-which-the-world-would-blow-up’ thing. Personally, I think it’s sad.
@fruityoaty
The Turtles are another classic band. Love that song.
And I always have thought there’d be a pay-it-forward effect. That’s part of the reason I do what I do. So many things are awful in life, at least one should be nice.
@Sarah
I don’t listen to music too much either, but sometimes when I don’t have any new movies from Blockbuster to watch, I take a listen.
@Checkers
Another classic Beach Boys song!
Yeah, too many kids are faux-depressed these days. And why should they be? The sun is shining, it’s a new day, and they’ve got their whole lives to look forward too.
Leave some depression for the people who have actual problems. Sheesh. Know what I mean?
Oh, I do love the beach boys.
But I don’t agree with you. You would be pretty surprised to know how many songs there are that have positive and bubbly feeling inside them, rather than sad and sarcastic. However, I know that there are more songs out there that are very depressing with a oh-I-think-I’d-rather-die hype.
