About This Blogathon Thing…

I’m crazy, but the Blogathon has been the best experiment ever!

I’ve found six amazing web logs to read daily. I’ve determined that web logging more often gets you more comments, and that the comments are better overall. I’ve boosted my post count and my comment count through the roof. I’ve had actual regular commentators.

For the first time in a while, owning a website has been fun, not just work. It’s a fun little side project to life instead of a boring thing that I just do in hopes of one day being able to make money off of it.

In tribute to the amazing Blogathon, I will continue web logging daily indefinitely. Yes, every day. For God knows how long. I like having an active site.

I told you I’m crazy.

But, my site really is more active when I write every day. This site is at 121 posts and currently 715 comments, with 21 of the posts and 147 of the comments being in February. I do answer posts, so that boosts my comment count, but still, that’s a lot better than December with only 6 posts and 109 comments. The ratio of comments to posts is lower, but the activity on the site and number of comments per day is higher. Observe.

February:
21 posts in 24 days. 21/24= .875 posts per day.
147 comments in 24 days. 147/24= 6 comments per day.

December:
6 posts in 31 days. 6/31= .19 posts per day.
109 comments in 31 days. 109/31= 3.5 comments per day.

Just to double-check my theory, I’ll check my stats in my admin panel.

February:
100,054 hits in 24 days. 100,054/24= 4169 hits per day.

December:
101,183 hits in 31 days. 101,183/31= 3,264 hits per day.

Theory proven. In my mind at least.

That’s an interesting theory, but also consider that the people who’ve visited your page before the Blogathon didn’t visit as often because they knew that you wouldn’t have updated so quickly. Does that make sense?

Then again, the posts you’ve done have been quite interesting anyway. ^_^”

    @Maria

Yeah, it makes sense. When someone doesn’t update often, you get to thinking that they never update, so you don’t check their site as often.

Oh, thank you! Your posts are really interesting too. They’re always so fun to read and comment on because they make you think. =D

Yes, prior to your participation in the blogathon I think I visited Rajio more often than misstuned simply because Rajio was updated a little more frequently. Since the blogathon though I’ve noticed you’ve opted to write about a wider range of topics and I think that helps too. Prior to blogathon I really only recall seeing personal entries and updates on the digital rights movements. So I think you’ve started to draw in a more diverse audience as a result.

I’ve been blogging regularly too lately and I’ve noticed an increase in traffic and in comments. Sure some of the older entries had 12+ comments on them, but they were left up for a week or more at a time so that doesn’t seem all that grand to me. I wish I had participated in the blogathon, but alas, I didn’t really find out about it until mid February. Kinda pointless to join then XD

Wow, that’s kinda sad. I never update Rajio. XD Reminds me, I should. I have a rotation picked out and everything, I just need to get on my desktop and upload it (as opposed to my laptop where I am now).

Yeah, it’s hard to get the word out to everyone, I’m amazed at how many people Jen from Moosh did get the word to, though. Maybe Despair or something could be helpful next time someone wants to start a Blogathon.

Ah math! Math is bad! Anyway I started reading more regularly your posts as well. They got very intresting though I didn’t comment so much.
I like having an active site too, so I’m always adding stuff when I can. Like today my FTP and header include stuff messed up really bad, and even though I was ticked like you wouldn’t believe (I lost all of my layout code the only stuff I had was the content between the includes) I also enjoyed being able to make a new layout and update coding. Anyway keep posting and I’ll keep reading. ^_^ They entertain me a lot of the time when I’m not doing something for MIK. I remember the “Birth Giving Machines” post. I forget when it was posted though. :P Anyway see you around.

Please take care to read the Commenting Policy before you comment. FAILURE TO DO SO and subsequent violation of will make you look like an idiot. And I'll point it out and laugh so hard I cry.
