Hate-Culture Got It Right

[Update - 4 October 2006]

Hate-Culture was very much a defunct site, so I deleted the wordpress installation there, and moved all the posts to the Junkyard. Hate-Culture will be used as a collective/whatever-the-hell-I-feel-like.

[EDIT]
The site linked to in Hate-Culture’s post is a PARODY SITE. That is MY picture and name there. I let the writers spoof one of my old site designs. The writers, editor, and I (the domain owner) collaborated to make that spoof. Why else would it be hosted on my domain?
[/EDIT]

Misstuned’s sister-site, Hate-Culture summed up my feelings in one go with their latest post.

Generally, cliche web design like that just makes you look like an idiot trying to follow a trend. A dumb trend. Like ponchos. Remember those? Don’t design your page like a poncho. Because you know you’re going to get sick of it and make another one in five seconds. Design for longevity. People remember a page if it looks the same. Also, you’ll save yourself time not having to search for those psds and brushes.

Reminds me, I need to make a theme for Hate-Culture. As owner, I should have done that long ago…Anyway, I’ve got a question for you.

What do you think of Hate-Culture’s article?
Is it too opinionated? Are they right?
Tell me!

they have a point about looking the
same as every other site but I’ll
assume that these owners change their
    layouts rather often? (:

    I would do it. I don’t think it’s a bad idea. It is opinionated, but I don’t think it’s a bad idea.

yeah it is opinionated. basically this is how i feel about it. people pay for their domains, and it belongs to them for a year or however long they decide to keep it. they can pretty much do whatever they want. if they want 50 million layouts in 6 hours then so be it. don’t like it? don’t visit their site.

    Deanna,

Thank you for responding to my comment in a very professional way. It is appreciated. I don’t think that the post that was written was all that bad. I agree with many of the things you were talking about, I was just really mad at sombody and in a terrible mood when I wrote my comment. Also, the way that it was worded was sorta harsh you know? But that is what makes websites unique. The way they can say what they want, and get it out there. Also, when I said gross word-press layouts, your sites where not even crossing my mind. I was just thinking in general all the word-press layouts I have seen, versus some of the really photoshop made and highly coded layouts. I love misstuned.com don’t get me wrong on that, and in no way, shape or form have I blocked you, or wish to “un-affiliate with you. My site is just being insanly gay right now. In fact, I love Hate-Culture. I love the idea of letting it out about somthing that bugs you. I would like to write for it somtime even. I am truly sorry about my comment. It was so unprofessional. Please don’t look at me in a bad way for this. I really do love having you as an affy and I wish the best to your new site, Hate-Culture, and MissTuned.

    Sorry Again,

    Kari

Yes, it’s opinionated, but I find that a cool thing. I agree with it. I’m sorry, but people are becoming too cliched. It’s not an art anymore when sites are created to look like everyone else’s.

    Great article.

I agree with almost everything said there. Though I’m sure I’m guilty of one or two of those.
